This portrait was born from a very special commission: capturing the presence of a child in an intimate, luminous register—one where the delicacy of watercolor could breathe. The composition seeks a balance between likeness and interpretation. The washes and transitions are intentionally left visible as part of the process—because that’s where the portrait gains its truth.

Working in watercolor allows me to build the image through transparent layers, letting light pass through the paper and creating a sense of lightness. Between looser washes and more defined areas, I balanced likeness and interpretation: capturing recognizable features, yes, but also the energy of the moment, the sweetness of the gaze, and the relationship between the two figures.
